If you do guided reading, you know how hard it is to find great tools for teaching specific skills and strategies before or during a guided reading lesson. I found it especially hard to find resources that had great examples to model the strategies with.
And when I did find tools, they were never in one place! I used book samples, task cards, magnetic letters, and of course had to come up with my own examples to use on my whiteboard.
All this planning was so time-consuming!
Soooooo, I set off to create a resource that had it all there. In one place. Organized. Ready to go.
Tools that you can quickly find when you need them (and before your students start poking each other and playing with the piece of crayon wrapper they found on the floor).
I used my own 17 years of teaching experience, books by Fountas & Pinnell, Jan Richardson, Wiley Blevins, and Jen Seravallos (a few of my favorites!), and came up with these Guided Reading Warm-ups. Get a FREE SAMPLE here.
What are Guided Reading Warm-ups?
There are 3 components to the Warm-ups resource (and soon they will ALL be digital):
1- One-page Warm-ups:
These are designed to be a quick review and practice of reading skills and strategies to warm up your students for reading! You can do the whole page or pick a section to work on. I included directions in each box, so these are great for assistants, substitute teachers, and parents as well. There are 181 warm-ups for levels AA-J in the Guided Reading Warm-ups bundle. DIGITAL Google Slides version INCLUDED
NEW** Digital warm-up pages are now available! These are included in the bundles and available separately.
2- Skill Cards:
Some students need more intensive practice with just one skill/strategy at a time, including comprehension. These cards focus on one skill, providing many practice opportunities. There are 646 cards included in the bundle!
3- Teacher Tent Cards:
I absolutely love these! If you are always looking for examples to use when teaching a skill or strategy, these 2-sided cards will become your best friend! They fold so that they stand, with one side showing a teacher script to read and the other an example to model with to help students understand! Talk about taking the guesswork out of teaching the skills and strategies! No planning necessary and no more fumbling to find an example to model! There are 74 tent cards in the following 4 categories:
Comprehension & Monitoring
Fluency & Expression
These 3 components make up my Guided Reading Warm-ups toolkit. You can print and organize everything so it’s ready to go when you need it. I added binder covers, separators, tabs, task card covers, and tent card tabs to make everything super organized (because who can function with a hot mess guided reading table??).

Struggle to Fit in All Your Guided Reading Groups?
There are weeks I don’t get to meet with all of my groups- lessons run over time, schedule changes, pull-outs, holidays, interruptions, students are absent….the list goes on and on.
A really great thing about this is not only can you use as a guided reading warm-up, but you can also use for a quick strategy group lesson and reach lots of groups in a small amount of time! Choose a warm-up page at your students’ level (some skills overlap, so you can use pages from a level above and below, depending on your students’ needs). Review the skills and strategies on the page just before they go do their independent reading.
Want to use their books for your strategy group? Great! Use the teacher tent cards to model a quick example of the target skill or strategy before sending them off.
I know what happens when you don’t have the tools you need to review a skill or strategy on the spot. You waste time. You have to think of an example, fumble through a book, or try to remember where you put that certain something that would be perfect!
And there’s almost nothing worse than feeling unprepared or unable to help a student with what they need. Grab this toolkit at a discounted price and have everything on hand for your guided reading lessons!
Each level is also available separately, as well as the tent cards. Scroll to see some of what’s included in each level. The bundle description has links to each of these. Get a FREE SAMPLE from my free resource library!
