Give your students 5 hands-on ways to practice reading and spelling CVC short E words with these Read & Write the Room activities!

Students move around the classroom finding numbered cards, then decode, write, trace, read, and edit short E words and sentences. Use the activities for whole-class practice, small groups, literacy centers, or a sensory bin.

✔ Read the Word: Decode each CVC word and color the matching picture.

✔ Write the Word: Identify each picture, segment the sounds, and write the word.

✔ Find & Trace the Word: Identify the picture, find the matching word, and trace it. The similar answer choices help students look closely at every sound and letter instead of guessing!

✔ Read the Sentence: Read each short A sentence and color the picture that matches.

✔ Edit the Sentence: Correct capitalization and punctuation errors, then rewrite the complete sentence.

This resource includes 48 task cards used across five activities, along with matching student recording sheets.

Picture cards are included in both color and black-and-white for easy printing.

HOW TO USE

1. Print and cut apart the cards. You can print each activity on a different color of paper for easy sorting.
2. Post the cards around the classroom or place them at stations.
3. Give each student the corresponding recording sheet, a clipboard, and a pencil.
4. Students find each numbered card and complete the matching numbered section.

These activities work well for literacy centers, small-group instruction, whole-class phonics practice, partner work, and independent morning work.

The word and picture cards can also be paired to play a CVC word Memory game!
